Packing List app review

packing list ios app

After testing a few packing checklist apps, this one is my absolute favorite and go-to.

Here's a link to Apple app store (not sponsored 🤷🏽‍♀️): https://apps.apple.com/us/app/packing-list-checklist/id1235121075

(Pls note that Packing List is available only on iOS 😒)

If you ever travel, you might want to use a packing checklist to make sure nothing important is left behind.

If you do backpacking, you absolutely should be using a packing checklist (you're welcome to check out mine). Imagine yourself discovering you forgot a water filter, a few kilometers into the trail...

Anyway, since I'm an organizing geek 😅 I was looking for something to help me track my packing list long before I started backpacking.

I tried various apps and even Trello Kanban board 🙈 but nothing seemed to be having all the features I need combined with ease of use.

Then I came across this app with a not-so-original name - Packing List, and after testing it for a bit, I fell in love. Okay, it's just a packing checklist, you will say. But I had struggled a lot before finding something that really works for me.

And honestly, now I don't understand why other apps don't work this way. So simple.

So why I loved it so much - let's dive into it.

Just a small disclaimer - some of these features require the premium version, which costs a ridiculous $2.99 USD. I don't exactly remember what features are premium and what not cause I use it over a year, sorry about that.

1 - Limitless lists and the ability to clone them

That allowed me, for example, to create a list that has all possible items for a vacation, and then I could clone it and remove the irrelevant stuff.

2 - Uncheck all items

Makes it so easy to use the list again. I have used my backpacking checklist many times now. No need to uncheck items one by one or create 39847 lists of the same.

3 - Fully customizable categories

Packing List has some predefined categories, like other apps, but somehow I always end up needing my own 🙈

And here - you can create countless categories, add an emoji for each one, just for fun, and fully customize the items inside each category.

I even have a special category called "last minute" and it contains the items I can't pack until the last minute, like my phone and birth control pills. This way it's easier to see what else is left, as the categories that are fully checked off appear as "all packed". Efficiency!!! 🤓

4 - can add, remove and edit items

This sounds like an obvious one, but in Packing List, it's really easy to rename, sort, move between categories, add and delete items.

5 - There is a built in to-do list

There is a to-do list attached to every packing checklist, which makes it easy to organize all the trip-related todos in one place. For example, in my backpacking list, I have "to check for bear cache" and "check for water sources" - this makes sure I'm extra prepared.

So this might seem like pretty basic functionality, and it is! But for some reason, many apps I tried lack it, so super happy to have this one to fully rely on to get myself ready for backcountry or a beach vacay trip!

And big kudos to Mariano Rezk that made this amazing little piece of software - support him by going Premium!

It’s almost winter and that means - driving conclusions regarding our current gear and planning what improvements we want to make before the next season. I wanted to publish there reviews for a while, but didn't know how to organize them. So here they just are.

Getting good night’s sleep is an important part of an enjoyable adventure, especially where physical challenges are involved. My sleeping system was a bit off last year, and after testing my upgrades for 10 nights on different trips this season I’m happy to report it’s much better!
